Administrative leave is a form of leave intended to protect employees and other individuals, or physical facilities or resources, at a CUNY worksite.
Administrative Leave temporarily relieves a Research Foundation employee of the employee’s job responsibilities. In general, the employee on Administrative Leave ceases reporting to work but continues to receive regular pay and benefits. Exceptions may be made when warranted by the particular facts involved.
Examples of situations warranting placing a Research Foundation employee on Administrative Leave include:
An employee is placed on Administrative Leave by the employee’s Project Director after consultation with the Research Foundation Office of Human Resources.
In each instance in which an employee is placed on Administrative Leave, the Research Foundation Office of Human Resources will communicate the terms and conditions of the Administrative Leave to the employee in writing. Where required, the Project Director will notify the sponsor providing funding for the employee’s employment that the employee has been placed on Administrative Leave.
The terms and conditions of an Administrative Leave may be revised as appropriate by the Project Director after consultation with the Research Foundation Office of Human Resources.
An Administrative Leave is terminated by the Project Director after consultation with the Office of Human Resources. The Project Director will notify the employee in writing of the termination of the Administrative Leave. The Administrative Leave will continue until the employee has received written notice that the Administrative Leave has been terminated.
This policy is effective immediately.
