Sick Leave FAQs

Sick leave accrues based on hours entered and paid on the timesheet. All RFCUNY employees have a sick leave accrual rate of 0.078571 per hour. Sick leave is not earned on hours worked over 70 hours in a pay period and is not earned on Fair Labor Standard Act (FLSA) hours.

Sick leave accrual details can be accessed through the Time and Leave system under the Time and Leave/View Accruals tab where employees may access their accrued balance, charges, and available balance.

Sick leave is a benefit available to employees while they are employed. After termination, there is no payout of sick leave accruals. Eligible employees may receive a retirement benefit based on the number of unused sick leave hours available at the time of retirement.

Employees may use up to 40 hours of their sick leave accruals in the calendar year for the care of a qualifying family member. Family members covered under this sick leave benefit are the employee’s child, spouse, domestic partner, parent, sibling, grandchild or grandparent, or child or parent of employee's spouse or domestic partner.

Sick leave may be accumulated up to 160 work days or 1120 hours.
