Miscellaneous Leave FAQs

To schedule Miscellaneous Leave employees must submit a request via OneRF Absence Calendar to their Project Director.

A returning employee from Miscellaneous Leave must return to work after the authorized length of absence expires.

The Authorized Length of Absence for each type of Miscellaneous Leave is as follows:

  • Jury Duty: Up to two weeks, unless the additional service is non-voluntary
  • Court Attendance Under Subpoena: Length of participation in proceedings
  • Death in Immediate Family Member: 4 days for spouse, domestic partner, parent, grandparent, child, brother, sister, father-in-law, mother-in-law, or relative residing in household. 
  • Health Department Quarantine: Length of quarantine.
  • Cancer Screening: 4 hours in a calendar year.
  • Lactation Break: 30 minutes as reasonably needed to express breast milk.
  • Prenatal Care: 20 hours during any 52 weeks period.
  • Unpaid Protected Time Off: 32 hours in a calendar year.

Yes, employees may use their annual leave accrual while on Jury Duty, Court Attendance under Subpoena, Death in Immediate Family (Bereavement Leave), or Health Department Quarantine.  If the employee exhausts their annual leave accrual, they will be placed on leave without pay for the remainder of the time.

A General Leave of Absence may be taken for a period of up to three months.

 If an employee does not return to work at the end of the three months leave period, future employment cannot be guaranteed.
