Miscellaneous Leave FAQs

While an employee is on Miscellaneous Leave With Pay, timesheets must be submitted using “Other Paid.”  In the drop down menu, the appropriate type of miscellaneous leave should be selected.

A returning employee from Miscellaneous Leave With Pay must return to work after the authorized length of absence expires.

The Authorized Length of Absence for each type of Miscellaneous Leave With Pay is as follows:

  • Jury Duty: Up to two weeks, unless the additional service is non-voluntary
  • Court Attendance Under Subpoena: Length of participation in proceedings
  • Death in Immediate Family Member: 4 days for spouse, domestic partner, parent, child, brother, sister, father-in-law, mother-in-law, or relative residing in household.  1 day for grandparent.
  • Health Department Quarantine: Length of quarantine.

Yes, employees may use their annual leave accrual while on Jury Duty, Court Attendance under Subpoena, Death in Immediate Family (Bereavement Leave), or Health Department Quarantine.  If the employee exhausts their annual leave accrual, they will be placed on Leave Without Pay (LWOP) for the remainder of the time.

General Leave Without Pay may be taken for a period of up to three months.

If an employee does not return to work at the end of the three months leave period, termination will be effective.
