The New York Early Childhood Professional Development Institute (PDI) is a fast-paced, dynamic public/private partnership that works to ensure that all early childhood practitioners have access to a comprehensive system of professional development.

The CUNY Support Team at the PDI is comprised of a team of coaches who help develop the knowledge and skills of leaders and teachers working in New York City’s Pre-KforAll program. We are currently hiring a part-time Early Childhood Coach to join our team.

The Early Childhood Coach is responsible for partnering the NYC Division of Early Childhood Education’s Instructional Coordinators to develop and coordinate a system of supports for leaders and teachers in Pre-KforAll classrooms. Leaders and teachers are likely to need guidance and technical assistance in a wide range of areas including but not limited to curriculum development, authentic assessment, classroom environment, encouraging family engagement, and behavior management.

Equipped with a wide range of experience in the field, the ideal candidates will have intimate knowledge of early childhood teacher preparation and the professional development needs of the Early Childhood workforce.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Reporting to the Director of Policy and Quality Initiatives and the Coach Coordinator, the Early Childhood Coach will:

  • Establish trusting relationships with the Instructional Coordinators, site leaders and teachers
  • In collaboration with the Instructional Coordinator, analyze needs and create goals and action plans based on the Pre-K Foundation for the Common Core.
  • Provide direct coaching using a range of strategies to build confidence and competency in each teacher,
  • Track and maintain data for contributions to program reports,
  • Work with evaluators and other coaches to build a community of practice.
  • Other duties as assigned by the CUNY Support Team Coordinator

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS

- Master's degree in Early Childhood Education or related area.

- At least 6 years of experience in early childhood education, preferably as a teacher.

- At least 2 years of coaching and/or mentoring experience.

- Familiarity with Pre-Kindergarten, Schools, and Community-based Organizations.

- Practical experience using Teaching Strategies Gold, the Work Sampling System, or COR Advantage

- Strong knowledge based in both child and adult development.

- Exceptional interpersonal skills

- Demonstrated ability to work with underserved populations in high-need communities.

- Ability to develop and sustain successful collaborative partnerships.

- Excellent oral and written communication skills.

- Ability to travel by public transportation to classroom sites throughout the five boroughs.
