General Description

The City University of New York, Collaborative Programs is seeking a part-time facilitator for its Youth Leadership Institute, a project of the CUNY Black Male Initiative. The CUNY Black Male Initiative (CUNY BMI) is a university-wide program dedicated to increasing the enrollment, retention, and graduation rates of populations that are underrepresented in higher education, particularly young men of color.

The facilitator will develop and lead an after-school structured mentoring program for high school students at two partner high schools in upper Manhattan. Students will be guided through a curriculum focused on personal growth, academic success, and college preparation and will be mentored by Hunter College students. Facilitators will work with the program director to plan student activities and monitor student success. Facilitators will work closely with and provide oversight to Hunter College students. The facilitator will report to the Project Director, located in the CUNY Office of Academic Affairs – Collaborative Programs.

The program will run one afternoon per week through May. Facilitators must be available five hours per week for planning and instruction. Instruction times will be every Monday, 4-6pm at a high school on the Upper East Side. Planning times are flexible.

We ask for a commitment for the entire academic year - October 15 through June 1. Must be available Mondays 4-6pm.

  • Bachelor’s degree in education or a related field (Master’s preferred);
  • Teaching, tutoring, or counseling experience with adolescents;
  • An understanding of college access issues for high school students;
  • Ability to work collaboratively and independently;
  • An interest in youth development, leadership, social justice, and student empowerment.

These functions include legal assessment and signing of agreements where RFCUNY is named as a fiscal agent; setting up award accounts; preparing sub-awards and assisting PIs in monitoring the work of the recipients of sub-awards; supporting project directors with hiring and managing research project and sponsored program staff; supporting the purchasing and paying for goods and services with grant and program funds; managing financial aspects of projects including accounts receivable, financial reporting, invoicing, budget monitoring, and cost compliance with uniform guidance; ensuring that sponsor financial requirements are met; monitoring compliance with applicable project and financial management rules and laws; supporting the management of independent and external audits and financial reviews; and providing data, information, management expertise, and other supports to CUNY’s research and sponsored programs.
