Job Description

General Description

The position of Suicide Prevention Educator and Outreach Coordinator is a SAMHSA grant-funded position in the Wellness Center within the Division of Student Affairs. This position will focus on suicide prevention initiatives on campus and more specifically implement the LAGCC CLASS grant-funded project, integrating this system into the colleges existing campus safety infrastructure. This position is supervised by the grant designated Project Investigator(s) and engages with the Wellness Center staff and college community to facilitate and assess suicide prevention initiatives. The outreach coordinator will collaborate with various divisions and departments at the university but has a most direct role within the Division of Student Affairs and Division of Academic Affairs. The position will engage in instruction and training; outreach; program development, intakes, and individual counseling of students requesting services, input and management of required SAMHSA SPARS and SPRC data reporting, and research and assessment related to suicide prevention and campus intervention strategies.

  • Proficiency in oral and written communication skills, public speaking, and leading group discussions.
  • Demonstrate understanding of issues (clinical and macro) regarding suicide, mental health, and best practices in regard to prevention of suicide and promotion of positive mental health on a college campus.
  • Demonstrable experience in the use of technology related to assessment, social media, and functions related to program implementation.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree preferably in Psychology, Social Work, Counseling, or related field. Licensed or Licensed eligible a plus.
  • Experience working with state and/or federal grants is strongly preferred. Experience teaching or training is strongly preferred.
