Outreach Coordinator/Prevention Specialist
LaGuardia Community College (LAGCC) invites applications for an Outreach Coordinator/Prevention Specialist. The position is a one year funded position through the Garrett Lee Smith Campus Suicide Prevention grant administered by Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA). This position will report directly to the Principal Investigator of the grant. We seek an experienced educator/trainer and who is passionate about working with college-aged and non-traditional students on issues related to suicide prevention.
This position will focus on suicide prevention initiatives and coordinate the LAGCC Campus Leaders against Student Suicide (CLASS) and Students against Student Suicide (SASS) Frontline Prevention Program. The position requires engagement with the Wellness Center staff and college community to facilitate and assess suicide prevention initiatives. Major responsibilities include providing Mental Health First Aid Training and SafeTALK workshops, and networking with on-campus, local, state, and federal resources for suicide prevention and treatment. The Outreach Coordinator will collaborate with various divisions and departments throughout the college. The coordinator will provide instruction and training; outreach and education; program development and supervision; and research and assessment related to suicide prevention and intervention strategies.

- demonstrate proficiency in oral and written communication skills, public speaking, and leading group discussions.
- demonstrate understanding of issues regarding suicide, mental health, and best practices.
- demonstrate experience in use of technology related to assessment, social media, and functions related to program implementation.
QUALIFICATIONS
Master’s degree in Counseling, Social Work, Psychology or Public Health preferred. Licensed or Licensed eligible a plus.
