General Description

The STEP Academy at Baruch College (a STEM academic enrichment and college preparation program) is seeking to fill in-person instructor positions for the upcoming semester. The Spring 2024 Program runs for 11 Saturdays: January 27th through April 13th, excluding February 24th for mid-winter break.

Position: Anatomy Instructor  

Course: Skeletal and Muscular Systems

Schedule: 9am-10:25am  

Description: This advanced biology course will introduce students to the skeletal and muscular systems of the human body. Students learn about the organs involved, functions performed, and research how imbalance/disease can affect the body. Students will explore biology as a major and career pathway.

Course: Respiratory & Cardiovascular Systems 

Schedule: 10:35am-12pm  

Description: This advanced biology course will introduce students to the respiratory and cardiovascular systems of the human body.  Students learn about the organs involved, functions performed, and research how imbalance/disease can affect the body. Students will explore biology as a major and career pathway.

**Please note: Candidates can apply to teach one or both courses.  

Salary: The pay rate for each course is $45/hour. 1.5hr of instruction + 1hr preparation. Total of $1,237.50 for each course.

Specific Duties

  • Plan, teach, and prepare materials for approximately 20 students
  • Evaluate student and group performance 
  • Provide staff with measurable results in student learning through assessments
  • Monitor and maintain student attendance records
  • Reassess curriculum based on student needs, interests, and understanding of material

Qualifications

Qualifications
   -Required:

  • Availability for each scheduled Saturday in the spring- Instruction: 9:00am-10:25am and/or 10:35am-12:00pm
  • Degree in a science or a strong background in the subject area
  • Ability to engage students in subject material
  • Enthusiasm for the subject and possess good interpersonal skills with teenagers

    -Preferred:

  • Experience with high school or college students in a teaching capacity
  • Strong classroom management style 
  • Experience with curriculum development
  • Demonstrated ability to create an engaging learning environment
