The College of Staten Island’s Office of Workforce Development and Innovation seeks an engaging and experienced health career training facilitator to assume the role of a P/T phlebotomy technician instructor. The instructor will make significant contributions to the success of a pilot workforce development project resulting from a partnership between The Office, Greenwich House and LabCorp. This exciting venture aims to successfully train, certify and prepare 30 individuals as Phlebotomy Technicians.
The P/T instructor will deliver 15 to 19 weekly hours of a pre-approved Phlebotomy technician training at the Greenwich House Lifelong Skills and Opportunity Center and prepare the trainees to take and pass the American Society of Clinical Pathology (ASCP) Phlebotomy Technician certification exam (PBT). The instruction will be complemented by intensive support services including career navigation and work readiness preparation (Greenwich House) along with 120 clinical hours at various LabCorp sites around the city. Although working collaboratively with key members of the Greenwich House and LabCorp team, the P/T instructor will report to the Workforce Administrative Team.
Other Duties
- Deliver high quality, creative and vibrant phlebotomy technician classroom training including lectures and in class lab activities to (3) cohorts of adult learners at the Greenwich House Lifelong Skills and Opportunity Center (Lower East Side, Manhattan)
- Design and sustain a positive and safe learning environment which supports students’ success.
- Create and maintain learner portfolios for each student, monitoring and reporting student progression and successes throughout their training.
- Other job-related duties as necessary.
Qualifications
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree and a minimum of 5 years’ experience as a phlebotomist or related allied health position.
- ASCP PBT certified and in good standing with professional affiliates.
- Experience and demonstrated success in facilitation/instruction.
- Exceptional presentation, verbal, and interpersonal skills to successfully work with and present to diverse learners and audiences
- Proficient in Microsoft 365 with intermediate to advanced MS Word, PowerPoint and Excel skills.
- Highly organized, trustworthy and able to work both independently and as part of a team.
