Teaching Assistant, Web Development Bootcamp

Objective: The Tech Talent Pipeline Residency Program, a software engineering internship placement program at the College of Staten Island seeks a teaching assistant for a 10 week full-stack coding bootcamp. This bootcamp will be delivered by the instructor virtually with the teaching assistants and students in person in a HyFlex classroom.

The bootcamp team is comprised of one (1) Instructor, five (5) Teaching Assistants and one (1) Lead Teaching Assistant. All team members must have high-level JavaScript and classroom experience. Team members will support approximately 40 CUNY computer science majors, lead project work, facilitate tutorials and project completion.

Reports To:  Program Manager, TTP Residency at the College of Staten Island

Timeline:  Anticipated timeframe June 12 – August 23, 2023.            
Approx. 194 total program hours
Weekly schedule is anticipated at 19 hours per week.

Salary Range:  $27/hour

ABOUT THE TECH TALENT PIPELINE: The NYC Tech Talent Pipeline (TTP), is the City of New York’s tech industry partnership, launched in 2014 by Mayor Bill de Blasio to support the inclusive growth of the NYC tech sector and prepare New Yorkers for 21st-century jobs. The NYC Tech Talent Pipeline works with 385+ companies, 17 local colleges, and additional public and private partners to define employer needs, develop training and education models to meet these needs, and scale solutions throughout the city, delivering quality talent for the city’s businesses and quality jobs for New Yorkers.

Other Duties

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Help students to break down the concepts they learned in class and deliver instruction to address individual skill gaps
  • Support students with building group projects in class and completing individual projects
  • Assist students with online tutorials
  • Review and grade the assignments submitted by the students, including pre/post assessments & capstone projects
  • If needed, help with designing assignments and updating the curriculum

Qualifications

REQUIRED SKILLS

  • Mastery of full stack web development (React, Node/Express), PostgreSQL, Sequelize, and mobile technologies
  • Mastery of Git and industry GitHub workflows
  • Experience teaching or learning in an online environment

PREFERRED

  • Familiarity with security, and AWS
  • Prior experience working as a teaching assistant in CUNY or a Bootcamp
