General Description
Queens College (QC) and Laguardia Community College (LGCC) serve a population that is significantly Hispanic and overwhelming minority, low-income, and first generation. Through Queens STEM Academy (Q-STEM), these CUNY partners will build inclusive learning communities resulting in more STEM degrees by improving STEM learning and supporting Hispanic and low-income students from admission to transfer. QC is seeking a STEM Academy Coordinator to help with the implementation of the Q-STEM grant, a five-year project between QC and LGCC. Reporting to the Associate Provost for Innovation and Student Success at QC, the coordinator with the LGCC Provost’s Office. This project has several guiding pathways to support students' success including:
STEM Learning. Launch a learning community cohort model, Summer STEM Academy, accessible course materials, research symposia, and Virtual Interest Groups.
STEM Link. LaGuardia and Queens College will forge 5 STEM articulation agreements, implement joint degree programs, and facilitate faculty exchange and shared transfer advisement. Creating transfer partnerships and scaffolding transfer support, LaGuardia will connect students with faculty and peer mentors at Queens College while building bridges to successful STEM careers.

Other Duties
Coordinating will be responsible for the following but not limited to:
- Develop and update transfer credit equivalence
- Creation of 2+2-degree mapping between LGCC and QC
- Attend LGCC admission and welcome fairs for the Q-STEM program
- Work with LGCC to identify QC peer mentors to patriciate in Virtual Interest Groups (VIG).
- Work closely with faculty to facilitate research opportunities on the QC campus for LGCC students
- Coordinating Queens College event and activities around the Q-STEM Grant including
- VIGs such as STEM seminars
- Admissions event both at LGCC and QC
- Manage the recruitment of faculty and student in the creation of the VIG community. Encourage participants to exchange ideas, ask questions, and obtain advice about their particular discipline, thus fostering a sense of community that drop-in transfer centers or typical one-shot transfer fairs and events have been unable to create.
- Biweekly meeting with the Project Director
- Grant management for several grants under the Associate Provost including hiring, time sheets and procurement
- Other duties as assigned
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree
- 1-2 years’ experience in Higher Education or Project Management
Desired/Preferred Qualifications
- Experience or knowledge of the transfer process
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Familiar with Zoom, Microsoft Office, Peoplesoft
