General Description

The Beeler lab is looking for a full-time lab technician. The position will be split evenly between (i) conducting/assisting with research and (ii) lab/colony management (lab manager). Our lab uses mouse models to study the role of dopamine in modulating decision-making and behavior, with an emphasis on ingestive behavior, including obesity and anorexia nervosa. A primary tool in lab right now is fiber photometry and optogenetics. The position is funded for a minimum of two years and may be extended contingent on future funding, performance and your interest.

Ideal position for someone wanting to take a couple of years to obtain more research experience before going on to apply to competitive PhD programs, though career lab technicians are welcome also. The position will provide opportunities for authorship on publications. While largely Mon-Fri 9-5 (or there abouts), flexibility is important as some weekend hours may be required depending upon particular research project being carried out.

Queens College is part of City University of New York and located in Queens. Queens is highly diverse and affordable with easy access to Manhattan and Brooklyn. Position comes with full benefits and salary is negotiable contingent on prior experience. A two-year commitment is expected.

The ideal candidate will have some background in neuroscience, e.g., neuroscience bachelors or coursework and some rodent research experience, though will consider highly motivated individuals with limited prior experience.
