Job Title: Teaching Assistant  

Location: New York City College of Technology (City Tech), CUNY, Brooklyn, NY (On-site) 

Job Type: Part-time/Contract/Temporary 

About Us: The Tech Talent Pipeline Residency Program (TTPR) at CUNY City Tech is a highly regarded initiative aimed at providing computer science students with industry-relevant skills and experience.  We are seeking a motivated Teaching Assistant (TA) to support the Winter Bootcamp Instructor in delivering a ten-week web development bootcamp. This role is an excellent opportunity for individuals passionate about education and technology who are interested in helping develop the next generation of tech talent. 

Start Date: December 1, 2024   

End Date: March 30, 2025   

Salary: $20 per hour (19 hours per week)   

Other Duties

As a Teaching Assistant, you will assist the instructor in various aspects of the bootcamp, including classroom management, student support, and project guidance. Your responsibilities will include: 

  • Providing support during lectures and hands-on project sessions. 
  • Assisting students with troubleshooting issues related to coding, debugging, and web development projects. 
  • Offering one-on-one or group assistance to students who need extra help understanding key concepts or completing assignments. 
  • Assisting the instructor in grading assignments and projects. 
  • Tracking and reporting student attendance and progress. 
  • Contributing to a positive and inclusive learning environment by encouraging student participation and collaboration. 
  • Attending TA team meetings and coordinating efforts with the instructor, tech advisor, and other TAs to ensure students are receiving adequate support. 
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Current enrollment in a web development or related field, or recent technical graduate. 
  • Proficiency in JavaScript, HTML, CSS, and basic web development tools. 
  • Familiarity with GitHub, SQL, and other technical tools relevant to web development. 
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to explain complex concepts in simple terms. 
  • Experience in tutoring, mentorship, or teaching is preferred. 
  • A passion for helping others learn and a commitment to creating an open, welcoming learning environment.
