General Description
Under the supervision of the Director and Assistant Director of Education Programs, the ESOL Instructor will provide English language instruction to students at the Adult Learning Center.
Classes meet on Mondays, Wednesdays, Thursdays from 6-9pm, beginning September 23, 2024.
All instruction is in person at CUNY City Tech in downtown Brooklyn at 300 Jay Street, Brooklyn, NY 11201.
Other Duties
- Develop theme-based, contextualized lessons to create a high quality English curriculum for adults
- Create a student-centered, engaging learning environment, as required by CUNY
- Evaluate student progress and provide feedback, both formally and informally
- Administer and monitor student testing, including Best Plus, Best Literacy, and TABE
- Maintain attendance records and work collaboratively with the ALC office and case manager on student participation and needs
- Complete 14 hours annually of professional development as mandated and provided by the Regional Adult Education Network (RAEN)
- Other duties as assigned
Qualifications
- BA or BS in education or related field
- TESOL or similar certification preferred
- Minimum two years related teaching experience, preferably in grant-funded literacy programs
- Experience creating thematic, content-based curricula
- Best Plus certified or available for the RAEN provided six hour training
- Proficient at integrating technology into lessons
- Excellent interpersonal, writing and oral communication skills

These functions include legal assessment and signing of agreements where RFCUNY is named as a fiscal agent; setting up award accounts; preparing sub-awards and assisting PIs in monitoring the work of the recipients of sub-awards; supporting project directors with hiring and managing research project and sponsored program staff; supporting the purchasing and paying for goods and services with grant and program funds; managing financial aspects of projects including accounts receivable, financial reporting, invoicing, budget monitoring, and cost compliance with uniform guidance; ensuring that sponsor financial requirements are met; monitoring compliance with applicable project and financial management rules and laws; supporting the management of independent and external audits and financial reviews; and providing data, information, management expertise, and other supports to CUNY’s research and sponsored programs.
