General Description

The School of Continuing and Professional Studies at Lehman College is seeking an experienced RN Instructor to prepare English Language Learners, who hold nursing degrees from other countries for the NCLEX and employment in the Bronx. The program is dedicated to increasing the number of bilingual/bicultural nurses in New York by providing the customized English and nursing preparation that internationally trained nurses need to pass the NCLEX and become NYS licensed nurses. The candidate will work collaboratively in the classroom with the ESOL Instructor. The nursing instructor is an active member of the program team and participates in all areas of programming through employment.

You must have a passion for student success, possess the collaborative skills to support a program team, and the ability to provide excellent quality instruction to multicultural/bilingual immigrant nurses.

Other Duties

  • Co-teach with ESOL Instructor, collaborate to revise, evaluate, and deliver quality NCLEX lessons to help English Language Learners, who hold nursing degrees from other countries achieve employment as nurses in the NYC healthcare system.
  • Use ongoing assessments ranging from internal tests to ATI tests to assess trainees' readiness for a successful completion of program and NCLEX exam.
  • Provide students with effective strategies and test-taking skills to pass the NCLEX exam.
  • Provide tutoring and remediation for students to support a high pass rate on the NCLEX.
  • Engage in job readiness activities and support students during job search after licensing.
  • Utilize a variety of teaching methods to accommodate the range of learning styles among the trainees.
  • Demonstrate the ability to work with diverse groups of learners. Generational and cultural considerations are included in educational approaches.
  • Document student progress in a timely manner.
  • Communicate with the Educational Case Manager and Program Manager as needed to discuss student progress and concerns.
  • Offer proactive support and outreach to trainees.
  • Use technology-based teaching and communication platforms to aid students in the development of competencies.
  • Track and report students’ progress, attendance, and satisfaction.
  • Attend weekly team meetings and provide updates on instructional needs, progress, and barriers to successful completion of the program.
  • Document lesson plans and overall curriculum schedule including assessments in a curriculum guide for each cohort.
  • Serve as a professional role model for students in communication, ethical comportment, and problem-solving.
  • Provide expertise in NCLEX content areas and maintain current knowledge in the nursing field.
  • Promote self-development by remaining current in practice area knowledge as well as advances in technologies and research.
  • Keep current in specialty areas by attending in-service workshops and seminars.

Schedule

  • Full-time position with benefits. M-F, 9 am-5 pm.

Hybrid position: In person twice a week at CUNY on the Concourse - Bronx NY; remainder of workweek instruction will be remote. 

Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Nursing
  • Three (3) years' experience teaching in a nursing program at a university, college, or community college
  • Must have online teaching experience.
  • Must have a passion for helping non-traditional adults advance in their career.
  • Demonstrated experience implementing and developing innovative and contextualized RN curricula for adult English Language Learners
  • Member of a professional nursing organization

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s Degree with at least five (5) years' experience preparing students for the NCLEX exam
  • Prior experience teaching in a foreign born, NCLEX-RN-ELL program.
  • Excellent knowledge teaching via Zoom and using a LMS such as Google Classroom or Brightspace.

 Position is grant-funded until November 2025 with option of renewal.
