Job Description

General Description

Research Associate/Postdoctoral/Ph.D. Positions, Kurtzman Lab

Dept. of Chemistry, Lehman College, CUNY, New York, NY

Postdoctoral or Research Associate position – NIH funded -- available immediately in the area of computational chemistry/computer-aided drug discovery in the Kurtzman research group.  The Kurtzman Lab specializes in the role of water in the recognition between small molecule drugs and their target biomolecules.  Projects range from those aimed at better understanding the underlying physics of molecular recognition, exploiting new insights to develop new methods and computational tools to speed up structure-based drug discovery, and the application of these methods to identify and optimize novel drug leads.

Our group is small -- generally, four or five Ph.D. students, a postdoctoral researcher (you?) and the PI.  We collaborate closely with each other, external academic groups, and industry.  While the postdoctoral research should fall within the scope of the lab, there is flexibility in choosing projects to develop skills and connections that will aid in achieving career goals.

Desired qualifications.  The position requires a highly motivated and dynamic scientist with a doctoral degree in computational, physical, or theoretical chemistry, computer science, physics or a related field. The successful candidate should be familiar with the Linux environment, have excellent scripting and programming skills, a strong background in statistical mechanics and molecular modeling, experience with running molecular dynamics and CADD software (e.g. OpenEye, Maestro, MOE, etc…), and knowledge of protein-ligand interactions.

Lehman College is a campus in the City University of New York (CUNY) system and is part of New York’s vibrant research community. Further information on the Kurtzman lab is available at www.lehman.edu/faculty/tkurtzman.   The position may involve limited travel to facilitate academic and industrial collaboration.

Please upload your CV, a cover letter briefly describing your interests and goals, and two or three letters of reference to the RF Careers page.
