Overview of Position

LaGuardia Community College’s Division of Adult and Continuing Education is seeking a part-time Web Development Instructor to provide instruction in the fundamentals of web development (HTML, CSS, JavaScript, GitHub, Graphics) for the college’s US Department of Labor funded Tech IMPACT program.  Tech IMPACT will provide training for a diverse group of young adults to enter into employment as Junior Front End Web Developers. The Web Dev Fundamentals Instructor will work closely with our bootcamp training partners to ensure students’ complete LaGuardia's Web Dev class prepared to enter classes at General Assembly, Udacity, or the Software Guild 

 This is a part-time freelance position, teaching a class that will meet during the day for 30 hours a week for 3 weeks.  There will be opportunities to teach multiple sessions of the 3 week class if candidates are interested in recurring assignments.

Key Responsibilities

 

  • In partnership with the TechIMPACT team, develop a curriculum which gives students an introduction to web development principles including basic HTML, CSS, and JavaScript along with commonly used frameworks and tools.
  • Provide instruction to a diverse class of students and create a motivating classroom environment
  • Evaluate students’ performance of course objectives and provide feedback to students and program
  • Support program’s objective of immersing students in the real world tech work environment by keeping up to date on industry trends and events and bringing this knowledge to the classroom
  • Work closely with the program’s Case Manager and other instructors to assist in efforts to retain students and prepare them for employment
  • Monitor and report on student progress and outcome
  • Participate in weekly discussions with team members to discuss students’ progress and to identify areas of extra support needed

Qualifications

Required Skills/Qualifications

 

  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to introduce and explain technical information to beginners
  • Demonstrated high level of experience in front end web development with expertise in HTML, CSS, JavaScript, GitHub and Graphics software, a solid understanding of web design concepts and commonly used tools and frameworks
  • Instructional experience and familiarity with curriculum development a plus
  • Commitment to diversity in the tech workforce
  • Passion for web development and a strong desire to share that passion with others
  • Strong desire to work with a diverse population of young adults to enable them to move into careers in the NYC tech community
