General Description
The Department of Nursing at Kingsborough Community College invites applications for a Medical-Surgical Nursing Tutor to mentor students to facilitate their success in reaching their goals to become a Nurse. The successful candidate will meet with students individually and in groups to support them as they clarify and review concepts taught. This is a part-time position that is anticipated to be funded through May, 2025. The work schedule will be four hours per week: 2 hours in-person and 2 hours via Zoom. This is a grant funded position. Visa sponsorship is not available for this position.
Primary Functions:
- Assist students with learning the course content and help them think critically utilizing prioritization and clinical judgement.
- Provide accurate and timely student-centered feedback.
- Collaborate with Faculty to develop educational materials to enhance student learning outcomes.
- Respect for the goals and experiences of a diverse group of students, staff, and faculty, including but not limited to age, gender, race, ethnicity, ability, sexual orientation, national origin, or economic status.
Other Duties
- Meet with students to reinforce and assist with understanding the course content.
- Help students apply nursing concepts and think critically about the course content.
- Use available assessments based on student input to help target areas of student need.
- Maintain student confidentiality at all times.
- Motivate, support, and empower students to expand their subject area confidence and assist them in defining academic success and monitoring progress.
- Maintain accurate records of student attendance and participation.
- Develop content-related tutoring materials in collaboration with faculty.
- Develop rapport and maintain contact with students and faculty.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree with three or more years of experience as a Registered Nurse in a clinical and/or educational setting.
- Tutoring or teaching experience with excellent written communication skills.
- Knowledge and application of test-taking strategies.
- Knowledge and application of NCLEX-NextGen test format.
- The ability to communicate effectively with diverse groups of students.
- The ability to effectively assist and assess student learning.
- Willingness to work as a team member with staff, faculty and students.
- Excellent organizational skills, professional conduct, and reliability.
- Knowledge of and/or commitment to the community college mission.
