General Description

A postdoctoral research fellowship is available with Professor Debi Koetzle in the Department of Criminal Justice at John Jay College, beginning immediately. The postdoc will conduct mentored research on a three-study, multi-site project funded by the Bureau of Justice Assistance, focusing on the relationships between risk, need, treatment quality and dosage, and client outcomes in a drug court court setting. The fellow will collaborate in all aspects of the project, including conceptualization, IRB, data collection and analysis, manuscript preparation, publication, and conference presentations (academic and alt-ac) and will work closely with other members of the research team. The position is renewable for one year, contingent on funding. Remote/hybrid work a possiblity. Some travel may be required.

Other Duties

  • Works with research staff to coordinate projects; ensures the effective completion of assignments by following protocols and accurately documenting research findings and progress
  • Assists in designing measures, sampling techniques, and instruments to measure results; follows protocols for gathering qualitative and/or quantitative data, coding data or information, constructing data bases using specified technology, analyzing data, maintaining data security, and archiving data as needed
  • Consults with other researchers and authorities in the field as appropriate
  • Assists in planning meetings, travel, web-based communication etc.
  • Maintains confidentiality as required by the project or as directed by supervisors
  • Keeps accurate, well-organized records
  • May be assigned substantial independent responsibility for major or complex portions of a research project
  • Provides professional support to the PI/Co-PI or other higher level supervisors, including drafting project reports, making presentations, meeting with sponsors, and organizing intellectual exchanges with other researchers/scholars in person or via telecommunications
  • Performs the duties of lower level positions as needed; performs other duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • PhD in criminal justice or related discipline
  • Established interest in problem-solving courts, risk-need-responsivity, and/or correctional interventions
  • Expertise in statistical analysis and software (R, SPSS, Excel, and/or Stata)
  • Expertise in qualitative analysis and software (preferred)  
  • Demonstrated capacity in scholarly research, as evidenced by publications and/or research experience
  • Ability to exercise intellectual leadership in anticipating and resolving research issues
  • Strong written and communication skills
