General Description

The GED Test Preparation is a comprehensive program designed to prepare student to pass the GED and obtain their High School Equivalency diploma by learning test-taking strategies in the four GED content areas and practice sample questions similar to those on the State exam.

The program is targeted to serve adults from the ages 19 and above, from throughout New York City. Under the supervision of the Program Director, the experienced High School Equivalency (HSE) GED instructor must provide instruction in science, reading, writing and social studies. The instructor will be responsible for daily classroom instruction & student assessment. The ideal candidate will have experience teaching adult students, with demonstrated knowledge and experience writing thematic-based and/or contextualized curricula.

Other Duties

  • Deliver effective instruction that develops and utilizes an array of instructional techniques to assist students in building literacy and numeracy skills and preparing for the GED exam.
  • Utilize effective instructional techniques to create a learning environment that consistently and continually communicates high standards and draws on content of a relevant theme-based curriculum framework.
  • Employ teaching strategies that will advance students’ level of content knowledge and connect learning to the achievement of students’ goals.
  • Administer standardize and informal assessments.
  • Complete administrative reports that assess and summarize students’ participation, educational progress and gain, as well as needs to successfully complete program.
  • Participate in curriculum planning and professional development activities.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in education or related field required. Master’s Degree preferred.
  • Experience teaching adult basic education/ HSE and/or college level courses. 
  • Experience developing thematic-based/ contextualized curricula
  • Knowledge of content found on the NYS High School Equivalency Diploma exam (HSE)
  • Open to teach evenings
