General Description
The High School Equivalency Test Preparation is a comprehensive program designed to prepare student to pass the TASC™ (formerly known as GED) and obtain their High School Equivalency by learning test-taking strategies in the five TASC™ content areas and practice sample questions similar to those on the State exam.
The program is targeted to serve adults from the ages 19 and above, from throughout New York City. Under the supervision of the Program Director, the experienced High School Equivalency (HSE) instructor must provide online instruction in Math & Science. The instructor will be responsible for daily instruction & student assessment. The ideal candidate will have experience teaching young adult students, with demonstrated knowledge on topics covered on the TASC test.
All classes are being given remotely online
Other Duties
- Be knowledgeable of the TASC and HSE attainment in New York State.
- Have subject matter expertise in at least Math and Science
- Employ curriculum materials in response to student needs and create assignments as needed
- Adapt to student’s needs, opportunities and challenges
- Keeps records, take and report attendance
- Maintain and report feedback on the class with the program Director
Qualifications
The ideal candidate will have the following core competencies and qualifications.
- Bachelor’s degree in education or related field required. Master’s Degree preferred.
- Experience teaching adults seeking their High School Equivalency
- Experience developing thematic based/ contextualized curricula
- Experience working with online platforms, such as Zoom and/or Google Classroom
- Computer proficiency
- Knowledge of content found on the TASC test
- Open to teach evenings from 6pm to 9pm or Saturdays from 9am to 3pm
