General Description

The Liberty Partnerships Program is a New York State Grant Funded initiative and is comprised of approximately 51 programs across the State that link colleges/universities with middle/high schools in order to provide comprehensive stay in school programming to at-risk youth. 

The Hunter College Liberty Partnerships Program seeks a full-time Social Worker to join the program to provide stay in school programming to high school students at one New York City-based high schools, Vanguard High School.

 

Other Duties

Social Worker needed to coordinate and implement drop-out prevention services for high school students in collaboration with the DOE staff and other CBOs on site.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, individual and group counseling, recruitment, scheduling and supervision of 10-15 college undergraduate and graduate students who are tutors/mentors, the design and implementation of school-based programming including workshops, afterschool programs, college exploration, college advising, workforce development, academic and cultural enrichment. Will also help plan and facilitate positive social activities during holiday and summer breaks.

Responsibilities will change with programs needs.

Reports to the Program Director and Field Instructor.

Qualifications

Must meet the following criteria:

  • Only applicants with a Master’s degree in Social Work and New York State license (LMSW) will be considered.
  • School-based collaborative experience and ability to work in host setting
  • Knowledge of New York City Public High Schools and knowledge of college application/financial aid application process preferred 
  • Experience in individual and group counseling with adolescents
  • Experience in college advising/exploration and workforce development
  • Experience facilitating workshops/groups and working with youth/families
  • Coordinating remote tutoring
  • Experience working with at-risk youth preferred
  • Must enjoy working with adolescent high school population
  • Must be flexible, have strong interpersonal skills, demonstrate cultural competency, be self-motivated and show initiative, and be a team player
  • Ability to work independently and to demonstrate professionalism
