Relationship Health Research Team

142 West 36th Street, 9th Floor

New York, NY 10018

Who we are

The goal of the Relationship Health Research Team (https://www.hunterrhrt.org) is to contribute to the national conversation about intimate relationships as a context for behavioral health, with a particular emphasis on populations at high risk for HIV infection. Our work includes formative studies document associations between relationship functioning and health outcomes (e.g., sexual HIV transmission risk, substance use, depression, and intimate partner violence) as well as intervention development and testing. All of these studies in some way seek to evaluate the premise that individual health and relationship quality are interconnected.

The team is led by Dr. Tyrel Starks – who will serve as the primary mentor and supervisor to the postdoctoral fellow – and his collaborator Dr. Demetria Cain.

We actively work to maintain a diverse environment and encourage applications from people of diverse racial and ethnic backgrounds, individuals of diverse sexual and gender identities, people living with HIV, and people with disabilities.

    • For those eligible, there is the opportunity to develop a diversity supplement application.
  • Clinical duties may include the delivery of motivational interviewing (MI) and/or cognitive behavioral interventions to research participants. Some component of this work will involve the delivery of substance use and sexual health interventions to couples.
