General Description
A highly motivated post-doctoral research fellow is sought to investigate the social-emotional development of secondary school students in an urban STEM educational program, and student, teacher, and school factors that affect student social-emotional development. The applicant should hold a Ph.D. (or have a scheduled dissertation date in spring 2016) in sociology, developmental psychology, or education, with research experience and interests relating to k-12 education and qualitative methods.
The main duties of the position are as follows:
- Assist with development of qualitative research designs and interview and observational protocols;
- Collect data from participants including students, teachers, and school administrators;
- Analyze qualitative data related to a variety of ongoing research projects;
- Participate with a research team in writing manuscripts and grant proposals.
Other Duties
- Interact with students, teachers, and school administrators;
- Support reporting on funded activities and compliance with permisssions to conduct research with human subjects

These functions include legal assessment and signing of agreements where RFCUNY is named as a fiscal agent; setting up award accounts; preparing sub-awards and assisting PIs in monitoring the work of the recipients of sub-awards; supporting project directors with hiring and managing research project and sponsored program staff; supporting the purchasing and paying for goods and services with grant and program funds; managing financial aspects of projects including accounts receivable, financial reporting, invoicing, budget monitoring, and cost compliance with uniform guidance; ensuring that sponsor financial requirements are met; monitoring compliance with applicable project and financial management rules and laws; supporting the management of independent and external audits and financial reviews; and providing data, information, management expertise, and other supports to CUNY’s research and sponsored programs.
