General Description

CCNY College Connect provides support to new first-year students from the time they commit to attending City College through their first year of school. This support is based on the relationship with a peer leader who guides the student through the onboarding process and their first year, assuring that they have a smooth transition to college life. 

This position closes on June 30,2023.

Other Duties

Under the supervision of the Director of Early College Program, College Connect, and CUNY Explorers, the College Connect Supervisor will:

  • Supervise and support the development of up to 20 Peer Leaders;
    • Assign and manage peer leader caseloads
    • Check in daily to provide task manage, and address questions and concerns
    • Facilitate 1:1 and small group meetings with the peer leaders
    • Create and maintain a peer leader manual for new hires
    • Managing and support peer leaders in implementing student facing programming & resources to support students
    • Facilitate peer leader assessments and bi-annual evaluations
    • In collaboration with College Access: Research & Action (CARA), ensure peer leaders attend CARA training and facilitate make up and/or site-based training
    • Provide oversight for peer leader projects i.e. hiring, Hustle, social media, newsletter
  • Manage the hiring process for peer leaders throughout the year;
  • Research existing peer leader programs on campus and make recommendations to strengthen the program model/structure to the Director;
  • Assist in the identification and development of relationships with representatives from on-campus departments/divisions to connect peer leaders and students to i.e. admissions, advising, career services;
  • Meet with the Director weekly to provide updates and feedback on peer leader progress and program development;
  • Support the collection of all required student data for submission to CARA and/or CUNY leadership;
  • Support the documentation and evaluation of campus retention activities;
  • Help to share best practices around college matriculation and success;
  • Attend all necessary program meetings.

Qualifications

  • This is a part-time, hybrid position of a total of 25 hours per week, requiring some in person and remote hours. This position closes on June 30, 2023.
    • Must be flexible in determining hours. This is not a traditional 9-5 position. Some hours may be expected to be completed during 4PM and 10 PM virtually.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Service, Social Work, School Counseling, Education or related field with a minimum two years of experience in college access, adult education, youth development, or a related field
  • Experience with and knowledge of Microsoft 365 and MS Teams;
  • Knowledge of campus resources and systems;
  • Experience navigating and working with bursar, admissions, registrar, financial aid and other college offices;
  • Experience supervising college students in leadership positions; provides coaching and mentoring
  • Ability to assess program needs and implement systems/structures;
  • A strong commitment to and interest in promoting college success for all students;
  • Strong interpersonal, organizational, written and verbal communication skills;
  • Data management skills.
