General Description

The Director of Innovation Management will, in coordination with the Office of the President and Executive Director, Office of Institutional Advancement and Communications, lead development and execution of CCNY’s strategy to maximize commercial success of innovations developed with CCNY/CUNY and Foundation for City College resources.

This is to include leadership of:

  • Development of strategic partnerships between CCNY and key industry stakeholders.
  • Definition and execution of strategy to maximize commercial success of the most promising innovations. This may include co-development and/or licensing of IP to industry partners.
  • Evaluation of the commercial potential of existing CCNY/CUNY intellectual property (IP).
  • Initiative to encourage CCNY investigators to formalize their inventions into new IP.

Other Duties

  • Increase public visibility and awareness of the technical innovations being developed at CCNY.
  • Develop strategic partnerships with key industry stakeholders at the local (NYC-based), national, and international levels.
  • In coordination with the Manger of Corporations and Foundations, maintain a current understanding of public funding opportunities available through city, state, and federal mechanisms.
  • Lead the commercialization assessment of existing CCNY IP.
  • Develop the strategy to maximize the yield and productivity of IP generated with CCNY/CUNY resources.
  • Train recent graduates and/or current CCNY students in key product development and commercialization capacities.
  • Integrate into local (NYC-based) technology-focused company development initiatives.

Qualifications

  • Advanced degree in a STEM-related field.
  • M.B.A. preferred.
  • A minimum of 5 years of industry experience in product development and commercialization capacities.
  • Experience managing junior team members strongly preferred.
  • Demonstrated success in building lasting relationships with key internal and external stakeholders at all levels of an organization.
  • Experience with key IP issues, including development, management, and licensing.
