General Description

We are seeking a passionate and knowledgeable part-time biology instructor to join our dedicated STEP faculty. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in biology, effective teaching skills, and the ability to engage and inspire high school learners. The instructor will be responsible for planning and delivering engaging hands-on lessons, assessing student progress, and contributing to the overall success of our STEP program. To ensure success as a STEM teacher, candidates should have a strong quantitative background, demonstrate empathy, and have good written and verbal communication skills. 

Key Responsibilities: 

  • Develop and implement STEM curricula with a specific focus on biology
  • Plan and deliver daily comprehensive and engaging biology lessons to high school students
  • Utilize a variety of instructional strategies and resources to accommodate diverse learning styles
  • Incorporate relevant real-world applications and examples into instruction
  • Assess and track student progress, providing feedback and support as needed
  • Create hands-on learning materials and experiential learning opportunities
  • Foster an inclusive classroom environment that supports students of diverse backgrounds, abilities, and needs
  • Communicate regularly with parents, students, and staff to ensure student success
  • Maintain a collaborative relationship with program coordinators and administration
  • Advise and mentor students to support their academic and personal growth
  • Supervise and support students during field trips, conferences, and college tours
  • Collaborate with colleagues and external partners to enhance STEM learning opportunities
  • Be a team player and contribute to the overall mission of the STEP program

Other Duties

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in a STEM discipline OR a minimum of 2 years’ experience in education, curriculum design, or a related field
  • Strong knowledge of STEM disciplines, particularly biology
  • Minimum of two years of experience working with middle and/or high school students in educational settings
  • Proven ability to support an inclusive and equitable learning environment
  • Experience advising and mentoring students
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively to achieve desired outcomes
  • Experience with community outreach and partnership development
  • Ability to chaperone and transport students to regional, state, and national field trips, including conferences and college tours
  • Commitment to the STEP philosophy of student empowerment and academic achievement
