Responsibilities for the Haitian Scholar-in-Residence

The CUNY Haitian Studies Institute (HSI), housed in Brooklyn College’s School of Humanities and Social Sciences, is recruiting a Haitian scholar in residence. The scholar in residence will initiate, continue, or complete research projects in their field and share with the academic community via lectures, seminars, and publication. The Haitian scholar in residence will also serve as a mentor for undergraduate and/or graduate students by conducting a series of seminars to discuss research techniques, how to publish in peer-reviewed academic journals, and other related academic issues. They will support, initiate, and participate in all projects and activities designed to augment the HSI’s institutional strength and to help it accomplish its academic and community service mission, goals and objectives. The Haitian scholar in residence will report to the Associate Director.

Qualifications for the Haitian Scholar-in-Residence

  • Non-tenure track, temporary (1 year, with possible renewal)
  • D. in the humanities or social sciences
  • Experienced teacher and scholar who has done work on Haiti (literature, language, society, history, culture, politics, immigration, transnationalism, and economy, etc.)
  • Knowledgeable about Haiti, Haitians, and the Haitian community in New York and beyond
  • Currently conducting one or more research and writing projects
  • Speaks and writes Kreyòl, French, and English

About the Research Foundation

The Research Foundation of The City University of New York (RFCUNY) was established as a not-for-profit educational corporation chartered by the State of New York in 1963.
