Description of Organization:

The Baruch STEP Academy is an academic enrichment program focusing on STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) education and college preparation. Managed through the CUNY Research Foundation, we serve over approximately one hundred middle and high school students throughout the city. The Summer 2019 Program will operate for 16 sessions over 4 weeks, from July 8th to August 1st.  Our website is www.baruch.cuny.edu/step.

 Summary of Responsibilities:

The STEP Academy at Baruch College is seeking a coding instructor for 16 sessions (Monday through Thursday 9:30am-2pm). This class will be focused on understanding the technology we use every day through studying the materials they are made from, the code that programs them, and the processes that take them from the labs into our hands. The course will look into several aspects of computer science, including: coding, web design, 3D Modeling or Game Design. Students will be expected to present an end of semester project that will be showcased at the Summer 2019 STEP Showcase.

  • Plan, teach and prepare materials for class of 20 students
  • Evaluate student and group performance
  • Monitor and maintain student attendance records
  • Be available from 9:00am – 2pm from July 8th until August 1st (Monday – Thursday)

Qualifications

  • Major in computer science, technology, engineering, or mathematics field
  • Experience working with diverse populations
  • Possess innovative and creative instruction methods
  • Strong background and interest in coding/computer science
  • Experience with high school students in a tutoring, mentoring, or teaching capacity
  • Be energetic, good natured, and possess good interpersonal skills with teenagers
