General Description

A highly motivated post-doctoral research fellow is sought to investigate factors affecting cognitive and motivational development among secondary students in STEM subjects in New York City public schools. The applicant should hold a Ph.D. (or have a scheduled defense date in spring 2016) in educational psychology or applied cognitive science, with research experience relating to learning in STEM or motivation preferred.

 

The main duties of the position are as follows:

  • Assist with development of research design and selection or development of instruments;
  • Collect data in schools and professional development workshops;
  • Analyze quantitative data related to a variety of ongoing research projects;
  • Participate with a research team in writing manuscripts and grant proposals.

Other Duties

  • Interact with students, teachers, and principals at schools and other events;
  • Support reporting on funded activities and compliance with permisssions to conduct research with human subjects

Qualifications

  • Intellectual strength in the field of learning theory and motivation
  • Special interest in k-12 STEM education
  • Training and experience in quantitative methods
  • Ability to handle multiple assignments
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Proficient oral and writing skills

About the Research Foundation

The Research Foundation of The City University of New York (RFCUNY) was established as a not-for-profit educational corporation chartered by the State of New York in 1963.
