Job Description

General Description

The College-Wide Research Vision initiative at The City College of New York is seeking applicants for a postdoctoral position. The position will be located in New York, NY.

The postdoctoral fellow will work on an interdisciplinary project entitled “Energizing Equity: Co-Creating Scalable Urban Resilience via Climate Solidarity.” This project combines sociology, urban design, engineering, and computer science frameworks to address climate change issues in New York City. It pioneers an interdisciplinary approach to convergent science where technological solutions in the areas of electricity and building efficiency and AI tools in the areas of multimodal data visualization and analytics are built into policy scenarios that place housing and energy justice at the forefront of a transition to a decarbonized future. ??The project situates community partner voices at the center of both near-term and long-term climate action and policy approaches.

The postdoctoral fellow will work with faculty from Sociology, Engineering, Architecture, and Computer Science on data collection, data management and analysis, as well as community engagement of local stakeholders, including public agencies, nonprofit organizations, and other grassroots efforts in the domain of environmental justice. There will be opportunities to collaborate on the publication of peer-reviewed scholarly articles and the preparation of funding applications to national and local agencies. The postdoctoral fellow will assist with the coordination of research by other team members such as graduate and undergraduate students and will be expected to manage project activities as needed. There are no teaching responsibilities associated with the position.

Start date: The start date of the position is as early as March 1, 2023 (but negotiable). The postdoctoral fellow will be initially appointed for a year-long term. The position is renewable for another 1.5 years through August 2025.
