Job Description
General Description
Postdoctoral Fellow at CUNY City College of New York
We are inviting applications for a US NSF Sponsored Postdoctoral position in Urban Boundary-layer dynamics. The research will investigate how the urban land-atmosphere processes influence convective initiation, cloud formation, and dissipation. The successful applicant will participate in a field campaign based in Houston, TX. The planned field and numerical studies will focus on how various urban processes, such as landcover land-use changes, anthropogenic heat, and aerosols, contribute and interact with convective clouds and their resulting storms- whether they aid or hinder their formation, strengthening, and dissipation. The field campaign will aim to capture the dynamics and inherent feedbacks between clouds, storms, and urbanization.
Other Duties
The Postdoctoral Fellow will lead the field campaign in Houston, TX along with other graduate and undergraduate students. The Fellow will be responsible for operating various atmospheric measurement instrumentation, which includes multiple flux towers and ground-based remote sensing devices (Lidars, radiosondes, and microwave radiometers). They will also conduct the data analysis.
Qualifications
All applicants must have a Ph.D. in either Mechanical/Civil/Environmental Engineering or Atmospheric Science/Meteorology. We will prioritize applicants who have previously conducted/participated in large-scale atmospheric field studies. The applicants must have advanced programming skills, and any experience with weather/climate modeling will be a plus. The work requires travel to Houston in Summer 2022 (June/July/August) to assist the field campaign; during other periods, the candidate will work in New York City. The position is available starting October 2021; the initial appointment will be for one year with a good possibility of an extension for an additional year.
Use this forum to apply, if you have any queries email Prof. Prathap Ramamurthy at; pramamurthy@ccny.cuny.edu. The deadline to apply for this position is September 30, 2021, with starting day of early January 2022.
