General Description:

The York College Child and Family Center is seeking a teacher for a classroom of two and three year old children.

Under the general supervision of the Director, the teacher will plan and implement an early childhood education program in accordance with center goals, curriculum, and principles of developmentally appropriate practices; establish and maintain an environment that ensures safety and healthy development; supervise and train assistant teachers, aides and student employees.

  • Observe and assess group learning experiences to ensure best practices and an anti-bias curriculum.
  • Establish supportive relationships with children and implement developmentally appropriate techniques of behavior management and group management.
  • Observe and record children’s actions, interactions and skill levels in conjunction with assistant teacher and maintain a system of recording these observations. Consider children’s level of development in formulating curriculum.
  • Develop positive collaborative relationships with parents.
  • Meet on a regular basis with administrative and teaching staff members to discuss program issues, curriculum planning, conferences and other aspects of professional growth.
  • Communicate with college faculty pertaining to the work of field service students and provide assessments as required.
  • Maintain a professional attitude in demeanor and relationships with children, parents and staff.
  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

 

Qualifications:

  • College credits, CDA, AA or Bachelor’s degree a plus. NYS Certification preferred.
  • Minimum 2 years teaching experience in a group setting with preschool children of diverse backgrounds; previous campus child care experiences a plus.
  • Professional knowledge of child development principles, appropriate behavior management techniques, and child-oriented approaches to curriculum.
  • Good written and oral communication skills
  • Ability to work effectively as leader of a team.
  • Candidate must comply with all NYC Department of Health and Mental Hygiene requirements for medical, fingerprinting, child abuse screenings and submission of references.
