GENERAL DESCRIPTION:

 

The I.T. Specialist/Web Application Developer supports the CUNY Office of Facilities Planning, Construction and Management (FPCM) in the following efforts: determining campus space needs and preparing physical master plans for the 24 CUNY campuses; requesting capital funding from the State and City; delivering capital projects; and managing the University’s real estate portfolio by maintain a series of databases. This position reports to the Director of Space Planning.

 

Salary commensurate with education, qualifications and experience.

Other Duties

 

RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:

  • Development and continued enhancement of various MS SQL database applications in coordination with the Departments of Space Planning, Capital Budget, Contracts, Vendor Integrity & Investigations, and Design, Construction and Management;

  • Designing, developing and implementing applications that support day-to-day operations;

  • Identifying, analyzing and understanding business problems;

  • Working with users to identify solution requirements and expectations;

  • Providing innovative solutions to complex business problems;

  • Continually reviewing and updating programming standards to ensure alignment with industry best practices;

  • Aiding in administering business critical applications;

  • Interacting with CUNY Office of Computing and Information Services and the Dormitory Authority of New York (DASNY);
  • Assisting with hardware and software selection;

  • Other duties as assigned.

 

Qualifications

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Must have Bachelor’s degree in Computer Sciences or related field, Master’s Degree preferred;

  • Experience with business applications related to higher education, facilities planning, construction and management;

  • Must have a minimum of 3 years of experience in system analysis, design and development of web applications using Cold Fusion and MS VB.net;

  • Must know HTML v.5, and CSS, and be able to imbed, trouble-shoot and test both JavaScript and VB Scripts within web pages;

  • Must have created and maintained databases on MS SQL;

  • Must have administrated an MS SQL server and demonstrated creating/testing/trouble shooting backup schedules and performing restores, including writing and debugging SSIS scripts;

  • Must have at least 3 years hands-on experience in utilizing MS IIS web services;

  • Public agency experience, and professional registration preferable;

  • Excellent computer skills required, including word processing and spreadsheet experience (Access, Word, Excel, Powerpoint required; Crystal Reports desirable);

  • All candidates must be self-starters with ability to work independently as well as part of a team, prioritize tasks to meet deadlines, follow up, and pay attention to details;

 

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, organizational ability, interpersonal skills, professional attitude and discretion are essential.
