General Description
Through its partnership with the City of New York, CUNY’s Building Performance Laboratory is hiring qualified energy management professionals to serve as on-site consultants and fill critical staffing capacity needs at the Department of Citywide Administrative Services’ (“DCAS”) Division of Energy Management (“DEM”). For background, DEM serves as the hub for energy management for City government operations. DEM develops the City’s annual Heat, Light, and Power Budget; manages the City’s electricity, natural gas, and steam accounts; helps agency partners identify and pursue energy-saving opportunities; does energy efficiency and clean power generation projects across the City’s portfolio; and implements operations and maintenance best practices. Specifically, DEM is tasked with leading the City’s efforts to reduce emissions from City government operations 40 percent by 2025, 50 percent by 2030, and 80 percent by 2050 from baseline.
For this specific role, on behalf of DEM, CUNY BPL seeks to hire one (1) Project Manager, Clean Energy to support implementation of clean energy projects. The Project Manager, Clean Energy will help advance the critical initiative of expanding clean energy resources across the City’s portfolio.
Other Duties
Under this assignment, the person’s responsibilities may include the following:
- Managing end-to-end development of clean energy design and construction projects including reviewing design documents, technical specifications, performance estimates, tracking project status, conducting site inspections, and coordinating project closeout processes.
- Ensure proper, timely, and cost-efficient completion of projects, including supervising consultants and contractors and working with agency staff at City facilities.
- Assist in the development of project portfolios, scoping documentation, and budget estimation.
- Performing technical calculations related to energy usage changes, generation capacity, energy cost savings, and avoided greenhouse gas emissions.
- Conducting analyses at both a project and program level. Completing performance analyses to ensure anticipated generation capacity and emissions reductions and City’s solar goals are achieved.
- Assist DCAS/DEM and our agency partners in identifying facilities for future solar PV projects.
- Develop solar PV generation models for information and planning purposes.
- Track key performance indicators and develop summaries and projections of past, current and future performance as well as installation metrics and milestones
- Performing program data collection, tracking, and reporting.
- Providing project management support across the division.
Qualifications
The ideal candidate will bring the following skills and experience to this position:
- A bachelor’s and ideally master’s degree in electrical, mechanical, facilities, environmental engineering, architecture, or related field.
- At least five (5) years of technical project management operations, including project planning, scope development, design and construction management, and project close-out; with three (3) years experience in energy management, facilities management, commissioning, or MEP construction project management.
- Strong experience with field visits, presence monitoring and tracking project progress and performance
- Experience in the development, installation, operation and/or design of solar PV projects
- Experience with Solar PV data acquisition and performance tracking systems, including database applications, communication protocols, and other applicable information technologies.
- Experience with Solar PV modeling software; Helioscope, PVSyst, etc.
- Strong familiarity with energy usage, energy cost savings, and avoided greenhouse gas emissions calculation methodologies.
- Certified Energy Manager (CEM); Certified Building Commissioning Professional (CBCP) or Existing Building Commissioning Professional (EBCP); or Building Operator Certification – Level 1 credentials preferred but not required.
- Commitment to customer service and demonstrated ability to effectively manage simultaneous projects.
- High level of productivity: able to meet and even exceed deadlines and handle multiple responsibilities simultaneously in a highly technical and fast paced environment.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills and proficient computer skills, including Microsoft applications.
- Familiarity with NYC electrical and energy codes.
- Project Management Professional (PMP) certification is a plus.
- Experience working with or for public sector organizations is a plus.
- Salesforce experience is a plus.
- A motor vehicle driver license valid in the State of New York.
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills. Specifically, with large data sets..
