General Description

Through its partnership with the City of New York, CUNY’s Building Performance Laboratory is hiring qualified energy management professionals to serve as on-site consultants and fill critical staffing capacity needs at the Department of Citywide Administrative Services’ (“DCAS”) Division of Energy Management (“DEM”) and its agency partners. The Department of Education (“DOE”) is a critical partner in contributing to the City’s efforts to reduce greenhouse gas emissions (“GHG”) by 80 percent by 2050 from a 2005 baseline (“80x50”). As part of the Climate Mobilization Act (LL 97 of 2019), the City also recently set new targets to reduce emissions from City government operations by 40 percent by 2025 (“40x25”) and by 50 percent by 2030 (“50x30”). For this specific role, CUNY BPL is hiring a Solar Project Manager to be embedded within DOE’s Office of Sustainability. The Solar Project Manager will report to the Solar Program Manager and will manage complex construction project work and oversight of construction work associated with the Solar Schools Program.

Other Duties

During their assignments, the person’s responsibilities may include the following:

  • Oversees multiple solar PV construction projects from initiation to completion, including budget, timelines, and contracts.
  • Complete comprehensive solar PV project design reviews to ensure compliance with governmental codes, technical specifications, facility needs, regulations, and policies.
  • Complete site visits and review site feasibility assessments, design documents, and performance estimates, and makes recommendations on strategy of construction rollouts.
  • Supervises assigned personnel in various titles performing solar PV contract management and estimating work.
  • Lead the technical project management operations regarding solar PV equipment selection and installation.
  • Perform final reviews and oversee close-out processes to ensure construction completion meets DOE requirements and standards.
  • Tracks, analyzes, and reports on the performance of solar PV projects, including leading annual inspections of solar PV sites.
  • Assist with development of DOE operations and maintenance procedures for solar PV installations.
  • Performs supportive functions regarding the NYC Solar Schools Education Program.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will bring the following education, skills, and experience to this position:

  • A bachelor's degree in architecture, chemical, civil, electrical, mechanical, or sanitary engineering
  • At least six years of full-time satisfactory experience in construction management work on capital projects
  • Experience managing multiple complex projects with diverse groups of stakeholders
  • Experience in the development, installation, and operation of solar PV projects including system design reviews
  • Experience with solar PV data acquisition and performance tracking systems
  • Familiarity with energy cost, savings, and greenhouse gas calculation methodology
  • Must be well organized, detail oriented and have excellent problem solving skills
  • Advanced Excel skills
  • Strong strategic thinking and written and verbal communication skills
  • Excellent relationship management and customer service skills
  • NABCEP Certification
