Seeking experienced field recruiter for research study with young people who use opioids

The mission of The CUNY Graduate School of Public Health and Health Policy is to provide a collaborative and accessible environment for excellence in education, research, and service in public health, to promote and sustain healthier populations in New York City and around the world, and to shape policy and practice in public health for all.

 

Researchers with the CUNY Institute for Implementation Science in Population Health (ISPH) study how to translate and scale-up evidence-based interventions and policies within clinical and community settings in order to improve population health and reduce health disparities.  The ISPH leads cutting-edge research across a range of topics, including health disparities, HIV, COVID-19, substance use, and mental health. 

 

We are currently seeking a field recruiter who can help us recruit research participants for an ongoing study that is evaluating a risk reduction intervention for young adults (ages 18-29) who use opioids (e.g., heroin, fentanyl, prescription opioids).   

 

The position requires a particular skillset to ensure completion of the required milestones.  This is a part-time position with flexible hours, with the potential to transition to full-time.

Other Duties

  • Directly recruit young people who use opioids to participate in study eligibility screenings.
  • Maintain regular contact with young opioid/heroin users across New York City to facilitate recruitment.
  • Regularly visit public locations in NYC where young people congregate (e.g., street corners, parks, bodegas, community college campuses, etc.) to distribute study information, conduct brief pre-screening interviews and encourage potentially eligible young opioid users to visit the study’s field site office.
  • Liaise with study contacts at harm reduction services, drug treatment programs and other organizations that serve vulnerable populations (e.g., people who use drugs, homeless youth, etc.) to solicit participant referrals.
  • Report detailed summaries of field activities to Project Director on a regular basis.
  • Participate in weekly team meetings by phone/internet.

  • Experience and comfort working with people who use drugs
  • Experience with in-person recruitment and field settings
  • Self-motivated, with the ability to effectively prioritize tasks and execute projects independently and efficiently
  • Ability to develop rapport with members of hard-to-reach populations
  • Team player

About the Research Foundation
