The Science and Technology Entry Program (STEP) at the Lehman College Center for School-College Collaboratives is designed for New York State residents in grades 7 through 12 who are minorities historically underrepresented or economically disadvantaged in the scientific, technical, health-related, and licensed professions.

The Project Director reports to the Principal Investigator.

The Project Director will conduct outreach to partner schools and the Lehman College School of Education; liaise with school personnel and leaders; hire, train, and support project staff in schools, including after-school STEM tutoring and special Saturday progrmaming; and recruit STEP students.

The Project Director will manage supplies for STEP programming and handle other related administrative tasks relevant to the grant functioning, including submitting budgets and reporting, etc.

Qualifications

  • Extensive knowledge of the field, or specialty, pertinent to the project area, as evidenced in areas of study, teaching, and/or research background; 
  • High oral and written communication skills 
  • Demonstrated organizational skills 
  • Ability to meet deadlines and work within budget constraints; 
  • Ability to exercise intellectual leadership in resolving project issues, re-conceiving and bringing to the attention of the Director of Operations and PI opportunities for redirecting project activities if needed; 
  • Ability to integrate a large or complex project and to work with others in order to resolve conceptual or practical issues and ensure a strategy for overall project success; 
  • Ability to organize and supervise the work of subordinate research, technical, administrative and support staff; 
  • Ability to identify support needs and arrange support for STEP students and teachers in the techniques, applications, practices, etc. important to the project; 
  • Ability to work effectively with staff, associates, and internal and external constituents; 
  • Ability to communicate effectively with and convey project information to students, sponsors, administrators, and the public; 
  • Ability to listen and respond to the concerns/ideas of others; 
  • Knowledge of policies regarding intellectual property, use of facilities and equipment, allocation of time and materials to project costs, and utilization of IT resources; 

Qualifications: 

  • A Bachelor's Degree in an appropriate field of study, or specialty, from an accredited institution and at least three (3) years of additional experience pertinent to the scope and complexity of the project of which at least one (1) year has been in a project support capacity; 
  • Experience working within an urban environment; 
  • Teaching or counseling experience in P-12 or higher education; 
  • STEM and/or computer knowledge base. 
  • Possession of the core competencies determined to be required at the time of hire; 
  • Timely availability to support project goals; 
  • Willingness to comply with all RF policies and procedures regarding staffing, budgeting, safety, reporting, and grants administration as evidenced by signing an attestation at the time of employment;
