MIDDLE SCHOOL ACADEMIC ADVISEMENT PROGRAM

Bronx GEAR UP THRIVES stands for GAINING EARLY AWARENESS and READINESS for UNDERGRADUATE PROGRAMS by TURNING HIGHER [education] RESOURCES INTO VITAL EXPERIENCES for STUDENTS. The Bronx GEAR UP THRIVES Internship Program provides college graduate students with an intensive structured professional development experience to transform their lives and provide inspirational educational experiences of sixth and seventh graders in our program. This is a year-round position that requires the intern to provide in person academic advisement workshops to 6th and 7th grade students at several middle schools in the Bronx.

 

 

Other Duties

As a Bronx GEAR UP THRIVES intern…

v You will work three days a week rotating among eight different Bronx middle schools by providing academic advisement, workshops, and connecting students with opportunities to participate in educational field trips and college visits.

v You will work the remaining two days at Lehman College receiving professional development to build your skills each week and engaging in vital educational data analysis work.

v You will have the opportunity to attend national GEAR UP conferences and institutes.

v You will be paid as a full-time employee and receive benefits such as paid annual leave and sick days and holidays, health insurance (medical, dental, and vision care), pension plan, and statutory benefits.

v You will have to opportunity to extend your contract up to two years while gaining valuable “on the ground” skills and experiences and managing a schedule amenable to your Master’s degree study.

Qualifications

Internship Eligibility Requirements

  • Must have an earned Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university and be in a Masters program in education, counseling, or a related discipline
  • Must have strong academic abilities shown by an unofficial college transcript with a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or better.
  • Must have personal/ professional experience working with middle school students of diverse backgrounds i.e., limited-income students, first generation college students, and students of color. Two years of demonstrated experience is recommended.
  • Must be culturally competent with an ability to develop quick rapport with middle school students
  • Must have strong attention to detail; excellent organizational and communication skills; be reliable, responsible, flexible, and punctual.
  • Must be able to pass a criminal background check and be willing to comply with health and safety mandates.

 

Positions available: 2

Annual salary: $45,00-$48,000

Requirements: Fully Vaccinated/ On-site at multiple locations in NYC area / The Bronx

About the Research Foundation
