General Description
LaGuardia Community College’s Division of Continuing Education’s Career and Professional Program (CAPP) in partnership with New York City Small Business Services (SBS), is seeking a full-time instructor to teach an intensive hybrid Advanced Manufacturing Apprenticeship program.
The learning outcomes for this training will be focused on providing technical and on-the-job skills in the advanced manufacturing field.
• 4 weeks virtual
• 8 weeks hands-on weeks
• OJT is 44 weeks
Training topics include: safety in advanced manufacturing; reading. interpreting and creating technical drawings; overview of advanced manufacturing operations, practices and factory workflows; metal fabrication; woodworking; 3d Printing; Laser cutting; using and adapting to Computer Aided Design (CAD), Computer Aided Manufacturing (CAM), and Computer Numeric Control (CNC) machinery.
Responsibilities:
- Deliver course content effectively according to defined course learning objectives and established curriculum, both in person and virtually.
- Deliver instruction of hands-on curriculum for advanced manufacturing in classroom and lab setting.
- Support the curriculum developer to create syllabus, outline, lesson plans, and supplemental materials in advanced manufacturing.
- Instructs students in the proper and safe use of lab equipment and tools.
- Explain and demonstrate operation of the lab equipment to the students.
- Maintain appropriate safety standards in the lab.
- Complete all required reporting on instruction which may include student learning outcomes assessment, surveys, reporting of no-shows and tracking of grades.
- Identify students in need of additional instruction and assist as needed.
- Respond to feedback on teaching approach and effectiveness, and adjust instructional strategy to -motivate students and respond to their learning needs.
- Supervise the lab assistant
- Participate in meetings as necessary.

Qualifications
- Minimum of 7 years experience in the advanced manufacturing field.
- Knowledge of advanced manufacturing operations, practices and factory workflows; metal fabrication; woodworking; 3d Printing; Laser cutting tools.
- Demonstrated competence in manufacturing practices and awareness of safety standards.
- Must be well-versed in metrology
- Supervision of others in manufacturing and classroom/training environment
- Knowledge of employer and individual skills needed to land employment in advanced manufacturing.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Demonstrated knowledge of and ability to integrate online and remote learning platforms into classroom instruction
- Demonstrated ability to provide diverse teaching methods to different learning styles. Must be able to teach students from diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds.
- Strong interpersonal and oral/written communication skills.
- Preferred experience with curriculum development and/or experience teaching advanced manufacturing training.
- College Degree in manufacturing related technologies or related field.
- Must hold the FDNYC Certificate of Fitness for Non-Production Chemical Laboratories (C-14) and OSHA 10-Hour DOL card.
