General Description
The Institute for Justice and Opportunity at John Jay College of Criminal Justice is seeking a highly qualifiedand motivated instructor to teach a practicum in youth justice as part of its Pinkerton Community Fellowship (PCF) program. PCF is a student development program that offers talent John Jay students the opportunity to gain hands on experience with leading New York City agencies committed to youth justice while engaging in complementary scholarship to contextualize their experiences.
The Practicum in Youth Justice is a two-semester, twelve credit interdisciplinary undergraduate course. The course is intended to provide Fellows an understanding of the discipline and field of youth justice, through classroom instruction, discussion, readings, media, interactive exercises, critical and reflective writing assignments and presentations. The appropriate candidate must have a solid understanding of the social, economic, and political forms of oppression that impact historically marginalized youths. In combination with field placements, professional development offerings, the course will provide Fellows the knowledge and practical experience needed to effectively serve justice involved youth and ultimately advance youth justice.

The Institute is one of twelve research entities that collectively comprise the Research Consortium of the John Jay College of Criminal Justice. Other Duties
- Planning and creating course materials such as syllabi, lectures, discussions, and assignments;
- Collaborating with Fellowship Staff on course design, content, and curriculum;
- Assigning grades for students based on criteria such as participation in class, writtenassignments, and class presentations;
- Participate in summer orientation for incoming cohorts of Pinkerton Fellows;
- Meeting all scheduled class periods;
- Staying current within field of study;
- Being available to students for individual consultation;
- Serve as thought partner for the planning of fellowship related events—including, symposia,public workshops; and events highlighting student achievement
Qualifications
- Minimum of master’s degree in a related discipline, MSW preferred;
- Strong commitment to the mission, vision, and strategic goals of the Fellowship program;
- High level of diplomacy and professionalism as evidenced by a demonstrated commitment tobuilding and maintaining strong working relationships among diverse stakeholders;
- Experience working with students in higher education setting;
- Demonstrated commitment to social justice and extensive knowledge of criminal justice issues;
- Strong communications skills including superior writing ability;
