The US Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) awarded a Health Profession Opportunity Grant (HPOG) to the Division of Continuing Education and Workforce Development (CEWD) at Hostos Community College to enroll and train individuals that receive Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) or are low income status.

The HPOG Allied Health Career Pipeline Program is seeking a Workforce Career Coach will assist 100+ students per program year in obtaining employment through an individualized student career plans once the student enrolls in class.  In addition, the Workforce Career Coach provides Career services, including but not limited to, resume writing assistance, mock interviews and leading dynamic career development and retention workshops.  The Workforce Career Coach will engage students by establishing trusting relationships, knowing each student with the goal of employment or college enrollment.

Other Duties

  • Maintain a caseload of 100+ students per year
  • Work with the Career Services team to attain weekly and monthly job placement goals and conduct student assessments
  • Create individualize career plans in order to help students overcome barriers to success during training, transitioning to employment and retention of employment
  • Create and conduct career development and retention workshops
  • Ensure all students are on social media for career opportunities, such as LinkedIn
  • Provide career guidance, which includes but is not limited to: resume review, job search strategies, cover letter writing, practicing interview techniques, and coaching how to search for employment and complete applications
  • Review student’s employment and educational history, job readiness and motivation
  • Collaborate with the Case Management team to assess student readiness for employment and identify supportive supports
  • Provide a minimum of two workshops a week targeting job readiness and life skills.
  • Provide retention services for students to maintain employment
  • Update social media platforms
  • Document all interactions with students in the database on a weekly basis
  • Perform other duties as assigned by director and supervisor

Qualifications:

  • Associate’s Degree and two years of experience in an employment training program
  • Experience working with diverse populations in low-income neighborhoods
  • Experience in job placement, required
  • Individual job readiness case load experience, required
  • Knowledge of the healthcare job market
  • Strong understanding of the needs of low-income individuals
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office

Work schedule:

Hours: Monday – Friday 9am-5pm, with flexible schedule to accommodate evening student needs.  Evenings include work schedule 10am-6pm and/or 11-7pm once a week, or as needed. Working a half day on Saturday, once a month/as needed.
