Job Description

General Description

The Center for HIV/AIDS Educational Studies and Training (CHEST) of Hunter College of the City University of New York (CUNY) is hiring one full-time Clinical Post-Doctoral fellow. Commitments are flexible but often last 2 years. Mentorship opportunities are available with two of CHEST’s investigators—Dr. Tyrel Starks of Hunter College and Dr. Brett Millar. CHEST (www.chestnyc.org) is an internationally recognized multidisciplinary research center which blends academic and community-based work focused on sexual health, HIV/AIDS, LGBT issues, and substance use. As part of the CUNY system, there are also opportunities for adjunct teaching. Positions begin Summer/Fall 2019 and starting dates are negotiable within that time-frame. CHEST is an equal opportunity employer and we strongly encourage applications from individuals from diverse backgrounds, including racial/ethnic and sexual/gender minorities. Candidates from underrepresented backgrounds are particularly encouraged to apply, with opportunities existing to develop Diversity Supplements to our ongoing NIH grants.

The positions will be approximately 70% research and 30% clinical work (intervention delivery and supervision). Research duties involve assisting with oversight and management of existing grant projects, supervision of staff, data analyses, authoring and co-authoring of manuscripts, assisting with grant writing, and collaborating with investigators on clinical research ethics and operations issues. Opportunities may also exist to provide training and oversight on clinical assessment tools used to gather study data. Clinical duties may include the delivery of motivational interviewing (MI) and/or cognitive behavioral interventions to research participants. Opportunities to provide training and supervision to other clinicians are available as well. Direct supervision by a NY State licensed psychologist  is available. Opportunities exist for the development of independent research projects/areas, as well as integration into existing funded projects. Studies on which the fellow might have a primary focus include Couples Health Project, PARTNER, and select projects within Scale It Up as part of the Adolescent HIV Trials Network (ATN).

Salary: Commensurate with experience along with a competitive full-time benefits package.

To apply, please submit a cover letter describing relevant research experience, a curriculum vitae, and 3-5 representative publications. Candidates should also provide the names and email addresses for three individuals familiar with their work who can be contacted for recommendations. Only those applicants who are selected for interviews will be directly contacted.
