General Description
Cancer Research Technician: Applications are invited for a laboratory research technician position at CUNY Hunter College/ Cornell. The technician will support research in the laboratory of Dr. Bargonetti. Responsibilities include oversight of laboratory inventory, bill paying, laboratory organization, ordering supplies, maintaining EHS records, biohazard disposal, maintaining cell culture lines, preparing media and plates for C. elegansstrains, and preparing general solutions for laboratory personnel. The successful candidate is expected to participate in conducting experiments under the supervision of the principal investigator (PI) and senior laboratory personnel. Minimal supervisory duties include training undergraduate students in laboratory technical duties. Must exercise independent judgement capabilities

Other Duties
Preferred Skills, and Abilities:Experience in molecular and cell biology techniques, such as cell culture,nucleic acid and protein extractions from mammalian cells, gel electrophoresis and real-time PCR, western blot, immunocytochemistry, ChIP, DNA transfectionamong others. Experience with fluorescence and confocal microscopy is highly preferred. Basic computer programs such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint and ideally also with specific software such as Photoshop, ImageJ, CellProfiler, NIS-Elements. Ability to understand the basics of statistics. Ability to work well in a team environment and have excellent communication skills. Must adhere to all safety requirements in all work environments.
Additional Information:This is term position for one year with the possibility of renewal. Salary will be commensurate with research experience if candidates have a degree above the Bachelor’s.
Qualifications
Eligibility (apply only if you meet these):
- Bachelor’s in Biology, Biochemistry or a related field. Previous experience in a molecular or cell biology laboratory is preferred.
- Availability to start the position no later than March 1st2019
- Commitment to the job for at least one year but two years is preferred.
- Excellent time management and the ability to self-start with directions given on a weekly basis. Must be able to work independently, maintain clear records, and also must be an excellent team worker. Hours required are from 10-6, Monday through Friday. This position offers a $35,000.00 starting salary with excellent benefits. It is ideal for someone interested in going to graduate school in the future or who would like to work towards a laboratory management role.
