General Description

The Center for HIV/AIDS Educational Studies and Training (CHEST) of Hunter College, City University of New York, is hiring for a full-time Adherence Facilitator with knowledge and experience in the areas of HIV/AIDS, and adolescent health including treatment and issues faced by youth living with HIV. CHEST (www.chestnyc.org) is an internationally recognized multidisciplinary research center which blends academic and community-based work focused on sexual health, HIV/AIDS, LGBT issues, and substance use. Adherence Facilitator: The Adherence Facilitator’s primary role will be to deliver cell-phone based interventions aimed at increasing adherence to antiretroviral medications among HIV+ youth for federally funded research studies with a focus on adolescent health and HIV/AIDS. The Adherence Facilitator will develop study related procedures, manuals and materials and collaborate with CHEST staff with regards to assessment and tracking of participants. The Adherence Facilitator will build rapport with participants and HIV care providers and assess reasons for non-adherence and problem-solve barriers to adherence. The Adherence Facilitator will also screen and develop regular call schedules with participants, track compensation, maintain study logs, schedule laboratory visits and perform other administrative duties associated with running longitudinal studies.

Other Duties

The Adherence Facilitator is required to troubleshoot and resolve research related issues while balancing a full workload and escalate issues to the Project Director as needed. The Adherence Facilitator may supervise others and reports directly to the Project Director who maintains responsibility for the respective research projects. The Adherence Facilitator will work closely with the CHEST Project Director and have communication with healthcare providers across the continental US.

Qualifications

Bachelor degree with knowledge of HIV including treatments is required, training and experience in motivational interviewing and experience working for healthcare, medical, or research settings are highly desired. The Adherence Facilitator position requires excellent organizational, written, verbal communication and interpersonal skills as the Adherence Facilitator will make regular phone calls to participants and providers and manage and track adherence to the intervention; compliance with protocols is required and experience with delivering interventions, tracking participants, maintaining audio files and electronic logs are highly preferred as is proficiency with data entry and some data analysis. Knowledge of Microsoft Office and familiarity with research methodology is also highly desirable. Applicants must be able to work independently in a self-directed fashion while managing repetitive tasks. Flexible schedule with evening and weekend work sometimes required.
