Job Description
General Description
The Khayat group, located in City College of New York, is seeking to to hire a postdoctoral fellow or research associate for performing cryo-electron microscopy (cryo-EM) studies. Candidates should exhibit competency in data processing via publications in peer-reviewed journals.
The group works on a number of projects that include host-pathogen interaction (porcine circovirus 2, human papillomavirus, human parainfluenza virus, and outer membrane vesicles released by pathogenic gram-negative bacteria), ion channels, and macromolecular machines (ribosomes). The postdoctoral candidate will be responsible for performing the cryo-EM experiments and data analysis of the research group. Personnel in the research group or collaborators will provide samples for cryo-EM studies. This is a fantastic opportunity to master cryo-EM by concentrating on the microscopy aspect of the project rather than the sample preparation.
The group has access to a Titan Krios with a Falcon 3 and Gatan K2 Summit, a Titan Halo with phase plate technology and a Gatan K2 Summit, an FEI F20 with a DE20, a JEOL 2100F, a JEOL 2100, a Tecnai Spirit, a JEOL 1230, and two FEI Helios 650.
Candidates must have a Ph.D., be highly motivated, exhibit independence, and have experience with or be enthusiastic about mastering cryo-EM. Training will be provided. Computational skills are a necessity. The candidate is required to provide training to graduate students and future postdoctoral fellows. Salary will be competitive for the NYC area and be commensurate with experience and prior success.
New York City is a vibrant and eclectic city known for its exceptional culture, arts, fashion, food, nightlife, fast pace, and unparalleled energy. Please send all inquiries to rkhayat[at] ccny[dot]cuny[dot]edu.
