General Description
Upward Bound Project at Borough of Manhattan Community College is seeking a qualified
Mandarin Chinese instructor for our summer immersion program. Upward Bound (UB) is a
grant -funded college prep-program that provides academic, cultural and educational programming for NYC
public high school students.
The Language Instruction Leader will provide group collaborative instruction in
an in-person or virtual classroom setting. The position is part-time, per session to conduct sessions on campus or over zoom.
- Introducing high school participants to basic fundamental Mandarin Chinese language and culture.
Other Duties
Candidate will conduct language instruction with Upward Bound participants in small groups using group learning techniques,
- Candidate must be able to design lessons, teach basic fundamentals about the language.
- Implement instruction to English-speaking participants, and communicate effectively orally and in writing.
Must have experience and ability subject matter-expertise in Mandarin Chinese with excellent presentation skills - Candidates must be highly motivated, patient, and energetic.
Qualifications
Candidate must be a college graduate or senior with at least a 3.0 GPA, with familiarity and patience with working with high school students.
