Research Foundation Statement on Racial Injustice

Published on: 06/24/2020

The Research Foundation of the City University of New York takes great pride in serving the City University of New York, an institution created on principles of ethnic and cultural diversity with equal access for all. The senseless deaths of George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, and Ahmaud Arbery and too many others before them who lost their lives to racism and racial injustice are anathema to the principle of inclusivity upon which the City University of New York was founded.

We share the City University of New York’s enduring commitment to social justice and stand together with the CUNY Board of Trustees, the CUNY Chancellor, and with all individuals and institutions nationwide in denouncing hate and demanding change.

In the words of Martin Luther King Jr., “Our lives begin to end the day we become silent about things that matter,” and today we must join the collective work to dismantle the entrenched structural and institutional inequalities in our nation and build a world of equality and inclusivity without bigotry, hatred, and violence against others because of their race. It matters.
