Adaption to Climate Change

Livestock is an important part of livelihood and survival in many parts of the world and in Nepal the health of livestock is critical for the production of milk and cultivation of food. Livestock in Nepal is affected by climate change (too much or too little water) and Professor Krakauer studies the link between water resources and climate in his three-year, $450,000 USAID award, Adaption to Climate Change. He seeks to map out the frequency of climate extremes such as floods on a fine spatial scale over Nepal (an area both mountainous and variable in climate) and identify the climate extremes most detrimental to livestock health. “This project gives me a chance to apply the scientific methods to something that will be useful to a defined group of people who can benefit from this work.”
