There are 1.6 million adult New Yorkers who are Limited English Proficient (LEP). Free and low-cost resources for learning English are limited and cannot meet the growing need for English classes. The program currently known as We Are New York (WANY) at the NYC Mayor's Office of Immigrant Affairs (MOIA) helps adult immigrants learn English and learn about City services using the Emmy award-winning We Are New York series, and companion educational materials.
The City University of New York (CUNY) and the City of New York are investing in the creation of a second season of WANY videos on various topics ranging from workforce, and workers' rights to social services, parenting, and mental health, among others. These videos will have companion educational materials to continue providing English Language Learners (ELLs) with resources to practice English, learn about their rights, and obtain information about City services.
The new videos and educational materials will be complemented by a new interactive WANY website that will allow ELLs to access program resources easily on their laptops, mobile devices and language labs in ways that support language learning and civic participation.
This RFA is a solicitation for bids for the creation of an interactive website and a creative ad campaign that will be used to disseminate information about the new series and corresponding materials.
